West Bex Caravans
We have two adjacent caravans that are situated on a quiet site with magnificent sea views. The fully equipped, modern caravans are a perfect base for exploring the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and the Lyme Bay area, or for simply relaxing in tranquil surroundings.
Just under a mile to the beach along public footpaths, or a five minute drive to West Bexington, the sea is in easy reach, perfect for taking the air and enjoying the expanse of the English Channel. A little further afield are such famous Dorset towns as Charmouth, the renowned centre for fossil enthusiasts and historic Dorchester, with it's nearby Maiden Castle, the largest Iron Age hill fort in Europe. This area of Dorset boasts several ancient sites, from the barrows at Long Bredy to the huge hill fort at Eggardon.
The seaside town of Weymouth, which will be the venue for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Sailing competitions, is only 10 miles away. For those interested in the culinary arts River Cottage HQ is half an hour away by car, whilst nearby Bridport and West Bay have a several good eateries.
Close at hand are the unique Swannery and Tropical Gardens at Abbotsbury. A little further afield are the beautiful Forde Abbey and Thomas Hardy's birthplace. Nearby, there are two local pubs, The Bull - just across the way from the caravan site, and The Manor Hotel - a five minute drive down the lane into West Bexington itself.
Whilst this area of Dorset is teeming with things to do, one of the attractions of Gorselands Caravan Park, where our caravans are situated, is that it is such a quiet site; there are no on-site entertainments or amusements, no games room, and no playground. The site itself allows people to breathe, to simply enjoy the fine sea view. There are however, a few facilities, an on-site shop for basics such as milk and newspapers, a laundry room and a payphone. There is also a WiFi Hotspot.
Our caravans are accessible by public transport. The CoastLinX53 bus service regularly runs between Exeter and Poole, via Weymouth. There is a bus stop a mere 100 yards from the Gorselands Caravan Park entrance. The X53 service can be used to make easy day trips from the site, stopping at a variety of locations along the Jurassic Coast, such as Abbotsbury and Charmouth.
